What Are Free Boiler Grants?

For a typical household heating accounts for around 60% of energy bills in a year depending on the boiler’s age, efficiency and performance.
A shiny new efficient one could save you up to £315/year, however buying a new Boiler could cost you somewhere between £2500 to £4000. Fortunately, there is some help available from the government for qualifying households to get a new efficient boiler on a heavily subsidised price or in some cases for free.
This help is available under the UK government’s ECO scheme which has been set up to help low – income households access home efficiency improvements to reduce the cost of heating their homes, reduce carbon footprints and live a greener life.
Boiler Grants are non-repayable, this means you do not have to pay any money back at any time. There are no complicated terms and conditions. If you qualify for a grant, you can have a new boiler installed along with new heating controls (where necessary). The amount of funding you get is determined by the efficiency of your home, so an energy assessment will be carried out free of charge. In some instances, a small contribution may be required.

It is likely you will qualify if:

• You own your home (or, in some cases, rent from private landlord; landlord permission needed)
• you meet the benefits related criteria (see list of full qualifying benefit) and your current boiler is at least 7years old (not condensing), you could qualify. It’s as simple as that.
